RE: Why aren't Canadians having a crisis?

I'm just glad ONE county has figured out how to make things work. Would Canada PLEASE declare we (USA) have WMDs and invade to save us! We could drain them of their money for our schools and roads etc. so they are in the same boat as us. Do you think we could get 10 billion a month from them. Of course they would have to drop a few bombs and destroy these things first. But they have their own oil so guess that won't work. This is meant to be funny.
The good old USA has not been doing very well for a long time now.
Trying to stay away from politics but I hope we can learn and improve next year after our election. If not god help us. This is RV.net and can you RV or retire and go full time after your 401K has tanked?
You need to ask why and get informed and not just read the day to day spin, but get a brain and vote like you future depends of it, as it does. This could be 1929 again.

RE: Best Of Sirius On XM Satellite Radio Has Now Started

I got XM last year for while in Quartzsite not much radio. Used it till we left in the spring. Had it canceled. Now going back this fall and got a card this summer in the mail offering 1/2 price for a year or $4.99 for 3 months. The offer had expired but they didn't even ask just turned me back on at 1/2 price.
The bad deal is they combined systems and NOW want to charge for crossover channels. Should make one offering with best of both.

RE: Best bets for full time insurance

Called our insurance agent Farm and Home Ins. Services www.rvadvantage.com for quotes on insurance on our new 5er. Since we have the truck insured with Progressive
I asked them about using them for both the truck and 5er. The result was $1300 for only the 5er (with only a $40 discount by doing both auto and 5er) and with National Interstate Ins. who we now have was $900 for the 5er. Guess no brainier on that one. That's only a couple of hundered more than we are paying now on a 5 year old 5er at a $55K replacement cost. And even that $900 quote should come back lower as I gave them the MSRP value ($80K plus) of the new 5er so the purchase figure will be much lower. We have found RV Advantage are the experts for fulltimers needs. Is that a recommendation... You Betch Ya...

RE: If bail out passes and works

AP. “Addendum to House Bill on the $700 billion Bail Out
Added to the house bill was a clause that amends IRS regulations to retroactively tax officers of the 700 financial companies as follows. Any income derived from salary and sale of company shares at inflated market prices that were based on falsely booked profits from dubious loan activity from 2003 onward, shall be retroactively taxed by the government at a rate of 90%. Those individuals unable to come up with the tax money due to the retroactive nature of the tax shall be given the opportunity of a government loan to cover the tax which shall be paid back at variable rates over 10 a year period.”
Jail time is more realistic but, of course, is not in the bill
I had this emailed to me and thought I would share...

RE: Best route to Quartzsite??

I-40 west to Winslow AZ (free city RV park) (see freecamprounds.com) then to Flagstaff (Or south from Winslow on AZ State 87 to Cottonwood) south on I-17 (nice state park in Cottonwood 1/2 way down I-17) then to AZ State HW 74 (this is on the far north side of Phoenix (no heavy city traffic) then west to Wickenburg. ($5 dry camping in rodeo grounds northeast side of town) Then US 60 west towards Quartzsite. Nice easy route and you don't have to go way far north and then down through Lake Havasu. But then again AZ State HW 95 south of Lake Havasu is a great scenic drive.
Have a great trip

RE: Tired of oil leaks in my 03 Duramax 1 ton

OP here... Just for the record the dealer is Karl Chevy in Ankeny, IA. Been here for 30 years and they do try to treat their customers right.
The bill was coded Goodwill due to several oil leaks and low mileage.
They are huge and even in this market, adding on to their building complex, which is already new and huge.
Check out their 30th Anniversary web site pictures.

RE: Tired of oil leaks in my 03 Duramax 1 ton

OP here... called the dealer today and told them to make sure they were going to replace the oil filter as it was also time for an oil change. On the call he told me they were going to cover the $1200 repair in full less a $100 deductible.
Now that's more like it!

Tired of oil leaks in my 03 Duramax 1 ton

I have had the dealer repair three times an oil leak in the lower oil pan. Now they tell me I have an oil leak in the upper oil pan and will need to disconnect the transmission to get to it to the tune of around $1200. 60 K miles. When does this nonsense end?

RE: "Homeless in Seattle"... 5th wheel in shop, AGAIN!

Your first problem is trying to pull a Hitch Hiker Champagne with a 1 ton pick up. These units need a MDT truck. Now that doesn't relate to your problem just an issue many have with pulling big units.
And you say... There were doubts that it would hold together because it lacked what I felt was a necessary brace. NuWa has produced how many of these units without this brace without any problems? Yes you still have a problem so you could care less about others with the same unit who do not have a problem. I understand that. You have tried and are still not a happy camper.
I would think by this time you would have been talking to Mike the CEO and owner of NuWa. And posting your problems on the owners forum where Mike does respond to posts. http://nuwaowners.org/
I hope you get satisfaction going forward as NuWa has a reputation of very much standing behind their units.
I would call up Mike at NuWa and in a calm as possible voice state your case and see what he sez. And if they come up with a plan to help, please come back and tell us what they propose to solve the problem.
NuWa owners want others to also be Happy NuWa owners.

RE: How much fulltimer's insurance?

I as a fulltimer, now have National Interstate Ins. for my 5er. Since we are getting a new 5er I went to the Progressive web site as they now do my truck, looking for 5er ins. and found it looks like they only do MH Ins. not trailers.
If this is not correct please let me know...

RE: It's true about Teton...

One of the reasons on Tetons problems is people can't get loans to buy one. If you are going fulltime and are looking at a $100K + 5er do you need to get a loan?

RE: Gas Panic!

Now how fun is it going to be to bypass all this in a few years with a plug in electric vehicle. I'm sure they'll figure a way to get us but right now we are at 6 cents per kilowatt hour. An all night charge will cost less than a buck. :) Hopefully the chevy volt will be towable four wheels down. :) I'm thinkin a few million plug in hybrids or straight electrics will reduce the demand a bit for fuel enough to bring down the price a bit...I hope.
And the RV Park will be sure to add on extra charge for you to charge your Volt.

RE: Quartzite

For things to do in Quartzsite check out Quartzsite Gem and Mineral Club
They are the largest gem and mineral club in the US, and offer a wide range of activities aimed at all skill levels. There are classes and instruction offered in general lapidary, silversmithing, wire wrapping, lost wax casting, faceting, opal cutting, stone carving, and knapping. They also go on a weekly rock collecting field trip, and there are weekly 4wd trips to old mines and other remote sites in the area.
All this talk about wind... We found constant wind in the RGV in TX.
In Q as fronts come through yes it can be windy for a day and then calm and be nice for many more days.
Where ever you go have fun out there.
We have been posting in our personal blog below (the last few years) all about Q and what we found during the winter season.
